We wanted to share a photo from a house guest who recently stayed in our OSU Beavers room at the East House. Their family happened to be big Beavers fans, who didn’t even know about the room until they visited the house. It’s a good thing they brought their Beaver pajamas and matching slippers to go along with the room decor! They gave us permission to share this super cute photo. (For Ducks fans, we also have of an Oregon Ducks room just down the hall).
We congratulate our housekeepers Zina & Vasili, who both passed their citizenship tests with 100% scores to become US citizens! RMHC staff celebrated with them on Thursday with a delicious Russian cake.
Last Friday, KATU television profiled the group of Corban students who visited the Ronald McDonald House on April 2 to complete a service project in honor of a classmate diagnosed with cancer. You can watch the segment by clicking the video player below.
The Oregonian published a story by Larry Bingham today about a family that has moved to Portland from Hawaii to be closer to the medical treatment for their daughter. The story also talks about the role that RMHC plays in supporting families who have had to travel long distances to be with a sick child. Thank you to Larry and The Oregonian for putting a spotlight on this overlooked demographic of families that RMHC helps to serve everyday.
On Wednesday the staff at Dull Olson Weekes Architects in downtown Portland dedicated an entire day to giving back to the community. A group of employees visited the East House for a service project, and made lunch for families at the house. Ronald McDonald House Charities was one of several non-profit organizations that benefited from their commitment to supporting the community. We want to thank everyone at DOWA for including RMHC!
The West House has added a new guest room, after the former resident managers apartment was converted into a self-contained family suite. The new suite is especially important for immune suppressed children going through chemotherapy, since it will allow them a private space complete with a mini-kitchen where they can remain isolated during treatment. The House can now welcome 17 families on a given night.
Our House Managers have compiled a new House Wish List, with everyday items that families need the most. Anyone can pick up these items when they are at the store and drop by either Ronald McDonald House to make an in kind donation.
When Kaelee Dearmore went home after staying at the Ronald McDonald House earlier this year, she got her whole community involved in collecting items from the House Wish List. Kaelee and her parents Jon and Lori returned to the House this week for another procedure, but this time they brought boxes full of donated items to give back to the house. Kaelee is a senior at Naselle High School, and got her whole school involved with the effort. Thank you Kaelee, and all of her supporters!

A group from Corban University in Salem visited the East House on April 2 for a service day to earn volunteer hours for a classmate who was forced to leave school because of cancer. Thank you to everyone who took part!
