RMHC published our 2011 Community Report this week, summarizing activities and achievements for 2010. The report shows donors and and supporters how their investment has helped serve families in our state and region.
Some highlights from the report: RMHC welcomed 1,484 family visit in 2010 for a total of 9,639 nights at our two Portland houses. RMHC awarded grants totalling $121,000 through our outreach program, supporting six oral health care programs that served more than 13,000 children.
Special thanks goes to designer Janellen Meyer of Meyer Creative, photographer Aaron Hewitt, and the staff of Journal Graphics for their work!
A team of volunteers from the Vital Life Foundation spent last weekend redecorating Room 106 at the West House, which reopened for families with a ribbon cutting celebration on Monday morning. Vital Life, the charitable foundation connected with Marquis Companies and Consonus Healthcare, works to support programs that provide meaning and vitality in the lives of seniors and staff members living and working in long term care. Vital Life has been an ongoing partner with Ronald McDonald House Charities, and contributes to the Houses through both financial, in-kind, and volunteer support.

Thanks to everyone who participated in Weed & Feed on Saturday, our annual garden workday that get’s the Ronald McDonald House ready for the summer sun. We had fun pulling weeds, planting flowers, trimming bushes, and sweeping the yard!
The laundry room at the East House has a new mural thanks to high school student Erica Carmen, who created the mural for her senior project that reads “Sorting out life…One load at a time.”
The laundry facilities at the house are an often-overlooked aspect to life at the Ronald McDonald House, which guests value for its convenience. Small things like doing laundry make life that much easier for our guests when they are dealing with a medical situation at the hospital. Thanks to Erica, the time spent in the laundry room will be a little more cheerful!
Do you like to garden? You can get your hands dirty, and help both of Portland’s Ronald McDonald Houses get ready for the summer during our annual outdoor gardening day called Weed & Feed – happening Saturday, May 21 this year.
You can bring your own gardening gear, or borrow some of ours. We always appreciate donations of flowers, potting soil, mulch, and debris bags. Enjoy spring weather, and free lunch provided by McDonald’s. All ages are welcome to participate!
Please RSVP at the house you plan to attend.
