Today we say goodbye to a very special member of the Ronald McDonald House family. Eileen Mooney is the longest-serving member of our staff, she has spent more than 12 years working behind the scenes, thanking donors, arranging meetings, managing our database, and doing so many other unsungĀ things which have helped our organization grow over the last decade to become what it is today.
If you’ve ever received a thank you letter for a donation to RMHC, chances are it passed through Eileen’s hands. If you’ve ever attended one of our special events at the Auction or the Golf Tournament, you’ve probably met Eileen at registration. We wish to thank her for her incredible service and dedication, but even more so for her generous, loving personality.
For some of us, it’s hard to imagine RMHC without her! She will be deeply missed, but we’ll always think of her and her family as part of our RMHC family. Best wishes Eileen!
Ronald McDonald House Charities was inspired by one. One child in need. One family looking for help. One doctor with a vision. One community joining forces to build the first Ronald McDonald House. And, through the Donation Box program, one penny, one quarter, or one dollar can add up to help create big change for RMHC families and children.
So “Join us for 1″ on July 1st to drop off your small change at your local McDonald’s Donation Box to help those in need.
Another weekend – another parade! Parr Lumber and Ronald McDonald House Charities teamed together to take part in the Good in the Neighborhood parade through Northeast Portland on Saturday. The parade was a special experience for families staying at the East House, and began just steps from our front door next to Emanuel Hospital.
Sam Manders and his mom dropped off more than 300,000 pull tabs at the Ronald McDonald House today, equaling more than 200 pounds of scrap metal. A freshman in high school, Sam collects the pull tabs all year in his hometown of Sequim, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula, and has been collecting for the Ronald McDonald House for years. He gets his whole community to contribute, and then makes the 4.5 hour trip to Portland every year to drop off the donation. RMHC resells the pull tabs to a scrap metal recycler, as a way to earn extra revenue. Thank you Sam!
Guests from the Ronald McDonald House enjoyed a fun morning at the World Forestry Center in Washington Park – which has provided free passes for families during the entire month of June. At the same time, the Forestry Center is donating a portion of proceeds from every ticket sold for the Take Me to the Top Canopy Lift Ride this month, which carries you through the forest canopy to the tree tops and back again, with a special glimpse at the different creatures who live at each level of the forest. The museum also has fun rides that educate visitors about river rafting, smoke jumping, logging, and other activities. Visit the museum during June, and help support RMHC!
Now that summer weather has finally arrived, the staff at accounting firm KPMG held an outdoor barbecue this week for families at the West House! A great way to enjoy the sunshine!
Our June eNews went out today, with all the latest information and updates from Ronald McDonald House Charities. Click on the image below to read the eNews online, or sign up here to receive it directly to your inbox every few months, so you can keep connected with RMHC.
Congratulations to longtime Ronald McDonald House volunteer Carolyn Davidson, who was the subject of a front page story in The Oregonian today. Carolyn was the original creator of the Nike Swoosh, and the article celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original design!
Our thanks to KGW’s Drew Carney and Camera Guy Steve, who broadcast live this morning at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club to preview the upcoming Ronald McDonald House Charities golf tournament & social on July 17 & 18. Drew got some golf tips from Ronald McDonald, while finding out more about this year’s festivities centered on screenwriter Mike Rich’s most recent movie, Secretariat.
Watch this YouTube video to relive the 2011 Starlight Parade through the eyes of Ronald McDonald House Charities. Thanks to Parr Lumber, we are able to share this special experience with our guest families.
