Washington teen makes record pull tab donation

June 26, 2012

Washington teen Sam Manders and his mom Kathrin came down from Sequim, Washington to deliver a record pull tab donation today. Sam collected 493,536 pull tabs last year, equal to 291 pounds. RMHC collects pull tab donations  throughout the year, which it resells to a scrap metal recycler to earn extra money for the house, and to encourage involvement in the community.

Sam, now going into his junior year in high school, has made an annual pull tab donation for the last eight years. He has built a network in his hometown with schools, businesses, and community groups, who all contribute to his project. His 2012 total breaks the previous donation record, which he set in 2010 for a one-time pull tab donation.
